Technical Support Engineer
United States – Fremont, CA
Job Type: Full-Time
Position's Duties:
- Responsible for handling customer calls and recreating and resolving technical issues
- Conduct on-site installation and troubleshooting
- Recreate network configurations and issues in a controlled lab setting
- Validate new software and hardware versions
- Global travel required
Skills:
- Requires exceptional technical skills in DWDM/CWDM products and fiber optic networks with good exposure to SONET/SDH, Gigabit/10Gig Ethernet, Fiber Channel, ESCON, and TDM services
- Highly developed troubleshooting skills combined with superior customer support skills
- Capable of systematic testing of proposed workarounds and new software and hardware versions, in field and laboratory environments
- Intermediate documentation skills appropriate for customer communication, test plans and reports, network planning, and as-built documents
- General knowledge of computers and application programs (i.e. MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio)
- Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to work effectively, add value as a team member and work effectively with members of other teams
- Technical knowledge in the following areas:
- Optical transmission systems (WDM Long Haul, Metro and Access)
- Ethernet transport and switching
- Network management platforms and applications
- Networking Applications (Voice, Data, SAN, VoD, Broadband)
Education & Experience:
- BS degree in related field, preferably engineering, computer science or telecommunications
- 5+ years related hands-on experience and/or user technical support in fiber optic networks and products, ideally in customer service for a telecom equipment provider or carrier
