Technical Support Engineer

United States – Fremont, CA
Job Type: Full-Time

Position's Duties:

  • Responsible for handling customer calls and recreating and resolving technical issues
  • Conduct on-site installation and troubleshooting
  • Recreate network configurations and issues in a controlled lab setting
  • Validate new software and hardware versions
  • Global travel required

Skills:

  • Requires exceptional technical skills in DWDM/CWDM products and fiber optic networks with good exposure to SONET/SDH, Gigabit/10Gig Ethernet, Fiber Channel, ESCON, and TDM services
  • Highly developed troubleshooting skills combined with superior customer support skills
  • Capable of systematic testing of proposed workarounds and new software and hardware versions, in field and laboratory environments
  • Intermediate documentation skills appropriate for customer communication, test plans and reports, network planning, and as-built documents
  • General knowledge of computers and application programs (i.e. MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio)
  • Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively, add value as a team member and work effectively with members of other teams
  • Technical knowledge in the following areas:
    • Optical transmission systems (WDM Long Haul, Metro and Access)
    • Ethernet transport and switching
    • Network management platforms and applications
    • Networking Applications (Voice, Data, SAN, VoD, Broadband)

Education & Experience:

  • BS degree in related field, preferably engineering, computer science or telecommunications
  • 5+ years related hands-on experience and/or user technical support in fiber optic networks and products, ideally in customer service for a telecom equipment provider or carrier
